## Surface areas and volumes

**Spheres**

There are 3 quantities of interest in a sphere:radius, surface area and volume.

The surface area is given by 4 π r ^{2}

The volume is given by 4/3 π r ^{3}

The numbers above show that as the radius of a sphere is increased, the volume increases much more than the surface area.

Use the sphere calculator (on the top right) to check that yourself, by inputing various radiuses.
