Infectious diseases

This map shows some typical diseases caused by each kind of pathogen.

Infectious diseases are caused by biological agents called pathogens. Those are bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa.

 

 

There are also agents that do not contain DNA or RNA, like the prions. These are misfolded proteins that cause disease; the most known of those is BSE, or mad cow disease.
